We’re having a Mindy Kaling moment right now at PEOPLE headquarters. Seriously, we love every style move she’s made recently (more on that here), not to mention her crazy-positive attitude and spot-on sense of humor (have you tuned in to The Mindy Project recently?). Now, the comedian just gave us something else to obsess over: her new bangs!

Kaling debuted her fringe Monday on Chelsea Lately, and shared the above photo on Instagram, with the caption: “I told Denno (@kateydenno) and Clariss (@clarisshair) I wanted to look like “one of Pharrell’s friends” and I think they did a great job. @helmutlang blazer and tshirt, @marcjacobs bling @Gucci shoes.” She also shared the below shot of her new look, writing “summer bangs.”

But — you might want to sit down for this one — we have a feeling they’re faux. Kaling has since posted photos sans bangs, which means she probably just wanted a fresh look for her talk show appearance. Sigh.

The actress loves to experiment with her hair. Just last week, she gave us a behind-the-scenes look at her extensions, and Mindy Project fans will remember that Dr. Mindy Lahiri kicked off season 3 with a pixie cut (just a wig!), which made her consider going short for real.

“I was, like, ‘This is kind of great,'” Kaling told Jimmy Fallon back in September. “I would do selfies and be, like, ‘This is hot,’ and I was, like, ‘Guys, am I one of those girls who can pull of pixie cuts?’ and immediately — no. My dad, my brother — they were, like, ‘Absolutely not.’

The reality star’s hair guru Jen Atkin shared an exclusive Flipagram of the process with us, giving an inside peek at how to get those perfect bouncy, glossy waves. “We love doing curls on Khloé because she has a gorgeous natural wave in her hair so it makes for an effortless style,” Atkin tells PEOPLE. Want to try it for yourself at home? The celeb hairstylist shared the steps below:

1. Prep ends with MorrocanOil styling cream
2. Rough dry
3. Add Sashajuan “Ocean Mist”
4. Scrunch or diffuse hair
5. Curl with Hot Tools 1/2-in. iron

PEOPLE’s Most Beautiful Woman in the World also has a great sense of humor. (Naturally — a gorgeous smile is key to the title!) The Oscar-winning actress shared the above snap on her Instagram feed in honor of Throwback Thursday, with the caption: “Love your stage, at any age. #tbt @peoplemag #MostBeautiful @lancomeusa.” Now we wish we could time travel to hang with Baby Lupita.

Another star of PEOPLE’s Most Beautiful issue, Mindy Kaling, shared a look at her gorgeous page in the mag, in which she goes totally makeup-free. “I still break out sometimes so I was nervous about this,” she shared on Instagram. “So I drank water like a maniac and put SPF on religiously for two weeks prior, used eye cream every night, as well as got my brows threaded the day before. So, no zits. Then I was like: wait this is how you should ALWAYS TREAT YOUR SKIN YOU DUMMY so now I do.”

If you’re not following January Jones on Instagram, you should be. The Mad Men star is always sharing funny selfies, and her latest might be our favorite. “What?!! Stop knocking on my trailer door, rehearsal can wait, I’m taking selfies!” #itsimportanttogetyourprioritiesstraight” she captioned this photo, mid-way through her Betty Draper glam process.

Who doesn’t love a good Kickstarter campaign!? A group of athletes are launching their own line of denim made for consumers who have muscular, athletic bodies. Championed as the “Anti-Thigh Gap Jeans,” Barbell Apparel has already reached their fundraising goal.

“The Barbell Apparel team spends a minimum of 20 hours a week in the gym, and when we get off work, we’re snowboarding, mountain biking, motorcycling, and doing just about any adrenaline fueled movement you can think of,” the new clothing start-up states on it’s Kickstarter page. “We were tired of struggling with jeans that didn’t fit, weren’t comfortable and completely restricted our ability to move. There’s something about impending warm weather that makes even the most scissors-averse girl want to hit the salon for a fresh new do. But not all of us are ready to go full Kaley Cuoco and opt for a super-short new shag. Three of our favorite stars recently felt the itch to go shorter — but not too much shorter — and we’re celebrating their fun, updated summer looks in one place. (Blame them if you find yourself in a stylist’s chair this week!)

First up is Mindy Kaling, who had a long, professional and polished side pony to deliver the commencement remarks at Harvard Law School last week — but hit the salon for a new do shortly thereafter. “Obsessed with my summer bob by @clarisshair. See ya sweaty neck, I got work to do,” she captioned the Instagram showing off her new, shoulder-grazing cut. (This was her hair yesterday — apparently fear of “sweaty neck” makes Kaling work fast.)

Also joining Kaling in the “sorta shorter” hair club: Mandy Moore, who normally rocks a long bob about the length of Kaling’s new cut, but turned to stylist Gregory Russell for a shorter, more angled and layered look. “Thanks for the bad-ass cut, @gregoryrussellhair! #summerhair” she wrote.

And perhaps Moore’s summery new look inspired her BFF Minka Kelly, who also lopped off an inch or two courtesy of Mark Townsend’s stylish shears, writing on Instagram, “Sooo @marktownsend1 and I had some fun with the scissors today! #chopchop.” She tends to wear her hair a few inches past her collarbone, but her new trim is a lighter look that will still let her pull her hair into a ponytail on super-hot days.

We’re always excited when a celebrity has a new mane change, so when Kim Kardashian shared a series of pictures with new blonde tresses yesterday, our inboxes flooded with emails saying, “OMG! Did you see?!” Despite our suspicions that it might be faux, we couldn’t just ignore her new do — and of course, hours later, the reality star shared another picture of herself with the caption, “It’s just a wig! Looks so real though right?” Though she managed to fool many with her fake locks, she hasn’t been the first celeb to try a hair hoax.

Clockwise from top left, Mindy Kaling also pulled a stunt when she was a guest on Chelsea Lately, showcasing some lash-sweeping bangs on her Insta. Though we loved the chic new look, we were later informed that her “fangs” (faux bangs) were just an experiment. Lauren Conrad and her hairstylist collaborated on their own hair joke, uploaded a picture of the reality star rocking some lavender strands — though their choice of an April 1 reveal gave a clue as to whether the do was for real.

Jared Leto shocked his hair-obsessed fans when they thought that he had chopped off his beautiful ombrè locks for a shorter cut. The Oscar winner uploaded a picture with the caption, “Short hair don’t care.” Though he was just participating in “Throwback Thursday”, he could have at least added #tbt to spare us some anxiety. Finally, Kaley Cuoco Sweeting debuted a “bob” long before actually cutting one when she uploaded a picture of a stylist’s scissor-wielding hands inches away from what appeared to be a choppy bob, but when we saw pictures from that night, we saw that it was just a strategic updo.

If we’re being honest, the best part of Tuesday’s Season 3 premiere of The Mindy Project was Diamond Dan, his hot-pink thong and that striptease. But aside from Mindy’s boyfriend’s secret past and the hot TV couple’s very active love life, we’re also happy to see the return of Dr. L’s amazing wardrobe.

The first look that caught our eye? The black-white-and-yellow geometric print design she teamed with a pair of blingy drop earrings. This look was definitely appropriate for the office, but also brought some signature Mindy flair thanks to the pop of color.

The star had a very “business professional” moment in a aqua pencil skirt, candy-apple red top and tan blazer, as well as a sexier date-night look, wearing a heavily-embellished, curve-hugging black midi dress. As for her off-screen looks, Mindy Kaling told PEOPLE she has no regrets. “I never like to look back, and make a designer, who has been generous to me, feel bad about what they lent me or that I didn’t love it. Everything that I wear that is lent to me looks amazing, [but] sometimes I wore the wrong hair and makeup or didn’t sell it the best way that I could.”

The magazine’s June cover star opens up about relationship with B.J. Novak, her style hive mind and what causes her to have those “diva moments.”

Right off the bat: “My diva moments are more tied to panicky worry,” Kaling, 35, says. “[My assistant] will have prepared everything for a day and then that morning, I wake up and I’m like, ‘I don’t want to do any of that; it has to be completely different.’ But I don’t throw hairbrushes at people or anything like that. I haven’t gotten there yet.”

She has gotten to the level that we obsess over everything she wears — in real life and as Mindy Lahiri on TV. But despite learning a ton from her on-screen alter ego, in real life, she can give in to peer pressure. “I think I’m very susceptible [to other people’s style],” she says. “We’ll have someone like Laura Dern on the show, and I’ll see what she’s wearing, and I’m just like, ‘Okay, well, that’s obviously the way you should dress.’ Or I’ll meet some cool actress who only wears Helmut Lang and Vince, and I’m like ‘Ugh! That looks amazing and chic and everything coordinates with everything and I need to get, like, a ratty T-shirt.’ I love fashion and I love clothes.” (Do you think Allison Williams‘ look from Michael Kors’ fashion show in September inspired her to rock a piece of the designer’s spring collection on the mag’s cover?)

And for those holding out hope that she and ex (both in real life and on The Office) Novak will reconcile, well, Kaling is stoking the fire. “I will freely admit: My relationship with B.J. Novak is weird as hell,” she says. “He is not my boyfriend, but he is not my best friend. I guess you could describe our relationship as a ‘romantically charged camaraderie with loud arguments,’ but I don’t think Facebook would accept this as a new status.”

The Mindy Project creator (and one of our perpetual style crushes) showed off her brand new bob at an N.Y.C. event for her book Why Not Me. The star, who normally rocks long, possibly extensions-aided waves (sometimes with blonde tips or faux bangs), showed off a super-sleek, chin length cut with a very slight auburn tint along with her just-launched book.

This time last year (almost exactly to the day!), Kaling showed off her “summer bob,” a shoulder grazing layered cut more in the “lob” territory. At the time, she said, “Obsessed with my summer bob by @clarisshair. See ya sweaty neck, I got work to do,” though there was no word whether neck sweat was a factor in her latest cut. She did, however, call the new look “dreamy:”

Mindy Kaling’s brand new do is already getting a lot of buzz. The actress told PEOPLE all about her summer look on the red carpet at Saturday’s Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic — and noted that her fans were quick to respond to the mane change.

“It’s wonderful that when you cut your hair people have such big reactions,” she told PEOPLE at the star-studded event at Liberty State Park, joining celebs including the day’s co-host and polo star Nacho Figueras, plus, Diane Kruger, Joshua Jackson, Freida Pinto, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Emma Roberts, Ruth Wilson, 50 Cent and Andrew Rannells. “I love it. It’s been so fun, and I can do lots of fun things with it.”

The star styled her chic chop with tousled waves for the event (she’s also experimented with it straight) and completed her summery vibe with a colorful Shoshanna dress. She explained that the cut wasn’t inspired by anything in particular. “I don’t know,” she mused. “Nothing’s really happened except I just wanted to mix it up.”

The TV star and author, who recently signed a lucrative book deal with bestie B.J. Novak, touched once again on their unique friendship.

“Our relationship is great,” she said. “We’re such old friends…he just moderated a panel I did at BookCon. He’s the smartest and funniest person I know, with whom I also fight the most. So I just love him so deeply, and I’m really excited to work on this project with him.”

Whether there is still a dash of romance in the long-running relationship, Kaling, 35, remained enigmatic: “I don’t talk about that, but I get why you asked!”

Mindy Kaling’s fashion obsession is legendary, both on-screen and off (as anyone who follows her Instagram or watches The Mindy Project can tell you, but there is one place you’re not likely to see her in a colorful crop top set or studded red leather booties: the writer’s room on set.

“At a certain point, there’s only one way to dress as a comedy writer,” she tells Yahoo! Style. “You end up dressing like a hot L.A. guy: boyfriend jeans, Stan Smiths, and a grey t-shirt.”

Outside of the writer’s room, though, Kaling has picked up a ton of tricks from her onscreen alter ego, namely that looking great is all in the details. “I had tweed separates from Reiss. I replaced the hardware on it and people thought it was a Chanel skirt suit, which I could never afford,” she says. “And I do well! I don’t know who can afford Chanel.”

She’s also learned the value of tailoring clothes to fit her body well from the show’s costume designer, Salvador Perez, but she’s really not into obsessing about her weight these days (emoji preach hands, Mindy). “When people talk about the way I look, it obviously bothers me. But the way it bothers other woman that I know is just so astonishing to me,” she says. “They’ve always managed to find me clothes at photo shoots. They’re never like, ‘We can’t dress this creature!’”

In addition to the show’s return to Hulu this fall, Kaling’s second book is due this fall (look for some seriously juicy Hollywood dirt this time around) and she’s working on a project with nebulous ex B.J. Novak. She swears isn’t going to be weird at all, especially because she’s dating a lot, just not broke L.A. comedians. “Someone who has a lot of rants but not a lot of money: That’s somebody I’m not interested in dating again. I’m surprised, sometimes even a nice strong crush will sustain me for a long time.”

Best of all? There might be little Mindys in the not-too-distant future. “I’m not cavalier about who I would have a kid with,” she says about considering babies with or without a partner. “But the thing I ask every parent that I really admire, the one comment they all have is that they wish they had kids earlier.” We’ll start bedazzling the onesies now.

We’ve already waxed poetic about all of the jaw-droppingly gorgeous gowns and dazzling accessories that hit the 67th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards red carpet Sunday night. So now, it’s time to talk beauty! Below, we’ve rounded up the best lip looks of the night.

To complement rather than compete with her embellished blush-toned Lorena Sarbu gown, Gina Rodriguez’s makeup artist, Carissa Ferreri for L’Oréal Paris, opted to keep the star’s pout neutral with a subtle shine to keep the focus on the strapless design. “I absolutely love Gina’s smile,” Ferreri said. “When it comes to the red carpet, we have fun playing around with lipstick shades. No matter what shade we settle on, the color always looks better when paired with pearly whites.”

So what shade did the pro settle on? A few swipes of L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Le Matte Lip Pen in She’s So Matte with a dab of L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro Last Lipcolor to help keep the color in place all night long.

As for Ariel Winter, who went full glam in a strapless, mermaid-style Romona Keveza gown, makeup artist Toby Fleischman was undecided on whether or not to go bold with a matching red lip or to keep the makeup simple. Ultimately, Fleischman went with a clean and simple lip look for the 17-year-old, letting the structured dress steal the show.

“With the gown’s modern aesthetic and her beautiful sleek waves, I didn’t want the makeup to be too literal,” Fleischman said. “So I chose my favorite nude lip, Burt’s Bees Lip Crayon in Sedona Sands.” The pro amped up the balm with a touch of “juiciness” with Burt’s Bee’s Lip Shimmer in Cherry.

Julianne Hough already took home our Beauty Award for “Most Accessorized Updo,” but there’s another aspect of her look we’re still slightly obsessed with: Her barely there pale pink lip!

“The cheeks and lips were softer to support the stronger eye and black [Marchesa] dress,” said her go-to makeup pro Spencer Barnes. “Peachy nude tones played an important role in completing the overall look.”

To get the peachy pink lip, Barnes first lined Hough’s pout with Mary Kay’s Lip Liner in Soft Blush and then filled it in with M.A.C Cosmetics’ Lipstick in Peachstock. And after a few blots, the lip was complete!

Unlike the above lip looks of the night, Sofia Vergara‘s makeup artist decided to keep the Modern Family‘s colorful pout the main attraction of her overall makeup moment. “I wanted the lip to stand out against the gold of her dress, CoverGirl Outlast Longwear Lipstick in Amazing Auburn was the perfect combination of brown and red, which helped achieve the pop of color I was hoping for.”

Mad Men star Elisabeth Moss went monochromatic with a “feminine look that was all about the lips,” courtesy of makeup artist Jenn Streicher. To team with the actress’s strapless magenta gown and brand-new blonde do, the makeup pro selected a matching magenta liquid lipstick (Laura Mercier’s Paint Wash Liquid Lip Colour in Orchid Pink) and then added dimension to the bold shade by lining Moss’s lips with Laura Mercier’s Lip Pencil in Crushed Berry.

As for Amanda Peet’s bright red pout, makeup artist Tamah said the inspiration for the matte look came from the star’s gorgeous Michael Kors Collection gown. “We wanted something classic, timeless and elegant,” she said. “The lips were, of course, the star of this look.”

Tamah applied Lipstick Queen in Brat Pack with a tiny precise lip brush, painting majority of the color in the center of Peet’s pout. Tamah finished the look by lining M.A.C Cosmetics Lip Pencil in Red around the lip edges to create depth.

Sarah Paulson must have gotten Peet’s red lip memo because the American Horror Story star also stole the show with an equally bright red lip, thanks to makeup artist Adam Breuchaud. “The main event for this makeup was all about the lip,” the makeup pro said.

Breuchaud applied a layer of red Mary Kay’s Creme Lipstick in Really Red with a brush to line and create the lip shape. He then set the color by dusting a light layer of setting powder on the lips, which also created a matte-like texture. He finished the look by swiping on a second coat — straight from the bullet — to “really push the pigment to the bright bold lip we achieved.”

And lastly, Mindy Kaling’s go-to pro, Cindy Williams opted for a fall favorite — a vampy lip — for the actress. To complement The Mindy Project‘s tangerine-colored dress, Williams went with a deeper, wine-hued lip shade that popped in all the right ways.

It would be a dream to shadow Mindy Kaling for 24 hours on The Mindy Project set. From her amazing wardrobe closet (Mindy Lahiri is undoubtedly the best dressed doctor in TV Land) to her hot co-stars, Kaling probably has one of the best sets in Hollywood. Luckily, she shares a lot of the action with her fans on Instagram — the good, the bad and the downright embarrassing. Her latest post was the last category and involved a really pretty purple dress and the actress’s “big butt.”

“When you split the seam of your dress doing some physical comedy because you have a big butt and you need to be sewn up. Glenn is brave. #themindyproject,” Kaling captioned the funny behind-the-scenes photo of herself.

The star often gives fans a peek inside her on-and-off-screen wardrobe, always serving up some serious style inspiration. And that’s why she landed a spot on our best dressed list.

Kaling’s stylist and the costume designer behind The Mindy Project, Salvador Perez, told People that the star is very good about choosing silhouettes that flatter her figure.

“Mindy will find a great coat she likes, but to make it flatter her it should be more tailored. So we’ll take coats that are like a cocoon coat and we tailor them, and then they’re just more flattering on,” he shared.

He added that they love to be try new things on the carpet and on the show.

It’s no secret Mindy Kaling has amazing skin (and a great sense of humor, and fabulous style, if we’re making a list). And lucky for us, the actress is spilling all about the beauty products behind her glowing, camera-ready complexion. Even better? You can actually afford them!

The Mindy Project star shared some of her must-have drugstore products she uses to create one of her favorite DIY face masks in a hilarious Instagram selfie on Wednesday.

The two ingredients needed to make the at-home mask? Bragg’s Organic Apple Cider Vinegar, which Kaling used in the place of a facial toner for its acne-combating abilities, and then mixed it with Aztec Secret’s Indian Healing Clay to target her oily skin. Together the two ingredients (for a total of $11.74) make one mean mud mask, according to the star’s glam squad.

“Sometimes I put glop on my face for beauty reasons. This one was cheapo and fun to mix and really worked,” she captioned the mud mask snapshot. “I don’t get paid by them or anything! Just have mega oily skin and @clarisshair and @jankinjo recommended this on book tour. It works! Fans of The Mindy Project know that Mindy Lahiri is one of the best dressed doctors on TV. (If you haven’t seen an episode of the show, trust us, her clothes are that good.) And Mindy Kaling’s TV alter ego is known for her bold, colorful coats. Good news: You can wear them this winter too.

Gilt.com has teamed up with the show’s Emmy-nominated costume designer, Salvador Perez, who designed his first-ever apparel collection under his own label — exclusively for Gilt. The inspiration? Mindy of course!

“I am so excited to debut my coat collection for Gilt.com,” Perez tells PeopleStyle. “The Mindy Project fans have been asking for these custom designs for years, and now they have the opportunity to purchase the coats I designed for Mindy. They are in bright colors with my signature button details and will add a bold statement to your wardrobe.”

Perez adds coats play a huge role in bringing Mindy’s character to life.

“As always we love outerwear,” he shares. “We shoot in Los Angeles, and the show takes place in New York, so to give that east coast feel, outer wear is a big part of her wardrobe.”

The limited-edition outerwear collection features six coats — styles range from classic houndstooth to vivid tweeds — which will also be featured throughout season 4 of The Mindy Project on Hulu. (Read: You can shop them in real time!)

Earlier this year, Perez told PeopleStyle that Mindy (who nabbed a spot on our 2015 Best Dressed list) is very good about choosing silhouettes that flatter her figure off-screen.

“Mindy will find a great coat she likes, but to make it flatter her it should be more tailored,” he said. “So we’ll take coats that are like a cocoon coat and we tailor them, and then they’re just more flattering on.”

Looks like Mindy Kaling’s stylist and costume designer, Salvador Perez, is taking a break these days, because the star has a new guy to turn to — her dad!

The Mindy Project actress, 36, hit the red carpet in a multi-color, glitter-embellished minidress for the March of Dimes Celebration of Babies event on Friday in Beverly Hills, and according Kaling, she has her dad to thank for the stylish ensemble.

“It’s Peter Pilotto,” Kaling told InStyle. “My dad got this for me.”

The Mindy Project went on to explain how her dad doubled as her stylist for the day: “He was just hanging out with me because we were going to go to lunch after and he was like, ‘Oh, I like this dress,’ and I was like, ‘Dad, you have amazing taste. This is Peter Pilotto.'”

But Kaling admits her dad didn’t know too much about the designer behind the dress, he simply selected the look blindly based on its colorful aesthetic. “He didn’t know who it was, but he really liked it,” she said. “After I tried it on, I told him I’m going to get it, he was like, ‘No, I’m going to get it for you.’ It was really cool. I have a cool dad.”

Kaling’s on-set stylist stylist and the costume designer behind her colorful wardrobe on The Mindy Project, Salvador Perez, previously told PeopleStyle that the actress has learned to select silhouettes that perfectly flatter her figure.

Self-proclaimed diva Mariah Carey once again shows that she will always sacrifice function for fashion by captioning her high-heeled selfie a “shoeicide.” She tagged the rapper Fabolous, likely referencing his “You Be Killin Em” line, “Her feet are killing her, I call it shoeicide.” But this is a lady who wears halter ballgowns in the snow and doesn’t own a pair of flats, so we assume this is a struggle she faces willingly on a daily basis.

And finally, Britney Spears lamented a spray tan gone wrong by posting a pouty selfie alongside son Sean Preston. Mindy Kaling is constantly dropping fun behind-the-scenes wardrobe snaps from The Mindy Project on her Instagram, from her previews of Mindy Lahiri’s colorful outfits to scenes of her chatting with costume designer Salvador Perez instead of memorizing her lines (whoops). And then there was that time her “physical comedy” was so intense, she actually split her dress on set (lucky for her, she had someone to sew her right back into it). But on Monday, she revealed one of her most, well, intimate secrets yet: How she gets away with her “nude” scenes.

Kaling showed off her skin-tone-colored one-piece bathing suit on her feed, which she has lovingly named “Old Faithful.” Interestingly, the suit appears to be a one-piece swimsuit, rather than a bodysuit, which may have been the more obvious choice for this sort of thing. However, the trick makes perfect sense, when you think about it. Her bare shoulders are good to go, and the color of the suit is so close to her skin tone, it camouflages any close calls. And the lacy side panels are the perfect lingerie-esque touch for those sexy scenes too, no?
